I first met Christians on Campus as a freshman at UT in the fall of 1990. I continued to meet with Christians on Campus until I graduated from UT in August of 1995. I feel greatly indebted to Christians on Campus for all the help I received in my pursuit of the Lord Jesus.
I began my walk with Jesus at the age of five or six. I have christian parents and my mother especially was a real pattern of one who knew the Lord in a very personal way. In addition I attended a christian school for kindergarten and first grade where I had a great deal of exposure to the Bible. I approached my mother repeatedly about wanting to pray to receive Christ and she helped me to pray one night before I went to sleep.
My walk with the Lord continued through prayer and reading the Word and in high school I prayed often concerning the Lord's will in the college that I would attend. I was not only accepted to UT but also received a scholarship based on my performance in high school. Once I came to UT I immediately sought out fellowship with other believers and came to a meeting of Christians on Campus within a few weeks of arriving in Austin. I believe the Lord's hand was really in my decision to go to the University of Texas at Austin and in my meeting Christians on Campus.
As I attended UT and met with other christians in Christians on Campus I was greatly helped in my experience of Christ and my understanding of the Word. I saw for the first time the difference between my soul and my spirit and this increased my enjoyment of the Lord Jesus tremendously. Previously in my experience of the Lord I had mainly tried to gain more knowledge concerning God and often came to Him in a mental kind of way trying to understand His will. After learning that my spirit was the key in contacting God (John 4:24), I felt released from having to figure God out to enjoying Him. The Bible became so enjoyable to me and almost every morning I would begin my day by praying with other believers.
I feel like my experience at with Christians on Campus at the Unversity of Texas at Austin laid a foundation for my going on with the Lord that I still benefit from today. I still like to begin my day with prayer and the word, praying over the words of the Bible, and consecrating each day to the Lord. I still enjoy fellowship with believers met through my time with Christians on Campus. I feel like the Bible is now more than ever before an open book to me. I also find that speaking to my friends about Christ is so much easier because of the experience I had on the gospel at UT.
